The Evolution of UW Home
1880
Ulster Weavers textile company was originally founded in 1880. Throughout the late 19th and early 20th century, the company continued to spin, weave, bleach, dye and finish the high-quality linen, for which Ireland and Ulster had become famous all over the world.
1960
During the 1960’s, the company brought its years of textile expertise to the kitchen sector – specialising at first in Irish Linen Tea Towel manufacturing and, over the years, expanding the range to include all types of kitchen co-ordinates, bags and giftware.
1990
By 1990 the company was trading as two different businesses; Ulster Weavers Home Fashions (specialised in kitchen textiles and giftware) and Ulster Weavers Apparel (specialised in apparel fabrics), however, in 2010 both of them were merged to form Ulster Weavers Limited.
2018
In 2018, Ulster Weavers acquired J Rosenthal & Sons (JRS) a Manchester-based ready-made bedding and curtain products specialist. Established back in 1911, JRS was a third-generation family-run business, much like Ulster Weavers, and was steeped in history with a passion for all things textiles.
A Future in Mind
The purchase of JRS was a strategic acquisition, with the aim of becoming a one stop shop for the design and supply of beautiful home products and accessories for every room in the house.
It facilitated an ambition to grow Ulster Weavers’ market share within the homewares arena, whilst also enabling the newly acquired business to access a greater spread of customers.
To this day, we continue to manufacture small runs in Northern Ireland, where products can now carry the “Made In Britain” logo and we also produce bespoke small print run kitchen textile items at our Manchester site.
UW Home Today
In early 2024, we moved one step further to consolidate our homeware brands under the umbrella of UW Home. This strategic move allowed our business to streamline its offerings and provide a cohesive experience for our well-established and valued customers.
UW Home’s current product range is wide and varied and now include ceramics, bathroom and outdoor textiles. Collections are inspired by the latest design and colour trends, developed by our in-house design studio, taking inspiration from global research and extensive travel. Ranges include timeless classics, modern heritage, trend-led looks and much, much more.
Our UW Home teams design and source products with sustainability embedded throughout their development journey. The majority of our products are made using carefully selected substrates and are produced in factories that meet the standards required to support our ethical and technical governance.
We have a dedicated team based in our Manchester office to support all admin functions, Merchandising, Accounts, Logistics and Quality Control and two impressive warehouse spaces to service our customers orders daily.
